Current situation surrounding temples
Currently, temples all over the country are lacking successors, and families are leaving their families, which is a serious problem faced by modern temples.
There are over 70,000 temples in Japan, and it is said that over 20,000 of them are uninhabited temples without a chief priest.
Furthermore, even if there are temples that currently have a chief priest, there are many temples that could become vacant at any time due to the absence of a successor or the aging of the chief priest. This problem of a lack of successors is a problem, especially in rural areas, and the departure of the Dan family due to the outflow of people to cities is also a major factor.
